Liz, The Woman in Hugh's Life?

So, Hugh Grant has sold his Andy Warhol portrait of Liz Taylor (no, NOT Liz Hurley, in case you thought I got my Lizzies confused!) for a whopping $23.7m (£11.4m) at a New York auction.

There are some discrepancies in the amounts reported that Mr Grant paid for the painting in the first place but he's easily made millions so he has proved himself to be a shrewd investor.

Woody Allen fans will remember Hugh Grant's performance in the film, Small Time Crooks with Tracey Ullman, where he introduces Ms Ullman's character, Frenchy, to the wonderful world of art and all things high society (well, New York society). It's a fabulous film.

In the meantime, the tabloids are full of pictures and stories about the OTHER Liz in Hugh's life, Liz Hurley. That cheeky pair played cat and mouse with the paparazzi as they flew over to NYC for a dinner party. Yes, that's right, a dinner party. Now that sounds my kind of life!

Yes, when all is said and done, Mr Grant has done rather well off the back of the two women, named Liz, in his life. Both know how to make a big impact when it counts!

So, a case, methinks, of real life imitating art!

The Alive + Well Dog Project

Now here's a good cause that definitely deserves a mention.

The Alive + Well Dog Project is busy getting ready for an art auction to raise money for Great Ormond St. Children's Hospital.

Check out their website (http://www.dogproject.co.uk/dog-project-gallery.php) to see all the fabulous canine canvases that are for sale. You'll recognise some of the artists involved - Damian Hirst, Rachel Whiteread - and some celebrities - Keith Allen and Susannah Constantine - all of whom have personalised their own pictures.

And here's why the auction is important:

"Great Ormond Street Hospital treats more than 90,000 patients each year - children who are suffering from the rarest, most complex and often life-threatening conditions. They receive the best medical care that money can buy, but the NHS funding cannot meet these ever-rising costs, and that's where the hospital's charity, GOSHCC, steps in."

So, if you're feeling flush, put in a bid! Actually, the prices really vary so you don't need to be Charles Saatchi to be able to afford what's on offer. You can also look at the pictures at The Gallery at The Hospital, 24 Endell St.,WC2H 9HQ (020 7170 9100).

The Mistress has got her eye on a few but her favourite has a predicted price of several thousand pounds so I don't think it will end up on our walls at home. But who needs a doggy canvas when you can look at me?!
