Who or what is…a Spanador? Is it a person who has signed the petition proposing to make Spandau Ballet’s song, Gold, the UK national anthem? Or do you think I’m barking up the wrong tree?
Well, amazingly, more than 2,000 people have signed this petition on the 10 Downing Street website:
http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/goldanthem/
At least it will be a distraction for Ruth Turner and her team; maybe it’s from the parallel secret email system that may or may not exist at Number 10.
Well, whoever these petitioners are, they are not Spanadors. No, as is pretty obvious to me now, even though I think I’m pretty clued up on the wonderful world of dogs, I realise that there is so much more I don’t know.
According to last night’s Evening Standard, a Spanador is a Labrador crossed with a Spaniel (or Spaniel crossed with a Labrador, to be precise).
And here’s a picture of one: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/spanador.htm
And here’s where you can buy some Spanador merchandise (I kid you not!): http://www.cafepress.com/fashionpug/2305531
So, since it’s a Friday, here’s game for the office; try to guess which breeds these guys are (see below). Some are like TV phone-in competitions, so easy to work out, it’s criminal.
Enjoy! And remember, it’s almost the weekend!
Woof Woof

Poogle must be a cross between a poodle and a beagle.
Weimardoodle must be a cross between a weimarian and a poodle.
Those ones are easy but I'm kinda curious about Crustie and Daisy Dog though.
My sis is getting a Miniature Golden Doodle this weekend.
I am of course partial to anything with Standard Poodle and Wirehaired Dachshunds.
I betcha a Cairnoodle would be cute. An English Boodle ~ can't picture that but seems intriguing.

The Crustie is a Chinese Crested/Yorkshire Terrier mix...
Natural laws would dictate that they'd make something pretty ugly...but I think they're quite cute.. :P

A St.Weiler is a mix between a St.Bernard and a Rottweiler. I call mine a St.Bernweiler or a Rottenard

I think all Maltese mixes are quite cute!

I really think all the cutsy names for mutts is just encouraging people to sell these cross breeds at a higher price than purebreds. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against crosses and I completely believe in hybrid-vigor. But I have a problem with people selling mutt puppies and calling them a cutesy name to make them sound better. I have a golden retriever cross and an austraian shepherd cross... and that's exactly what I call them.

I think that Morkie is missing from the list? It is a cross between a Maltese and a Yorkie. There are some tiny dogs on this list.
